Tutu.ru, a travel website offering tickets, tours, and hotel bookings to 13.5 million users every month, has migrated to CROC’s cloud. This decision was made in order to help develop new products, from idea to marketing, and accelerate roll-out thanks to the provisioning of servers within only a few minutes, instead of days or even weeks like before.
The cloud ensures high-speed customer service and rapid responsiveness to dynamic market changes, thus further increasing the competitiveness of what is already Russia’s most visited travel website1. Now, users can find and obtain tickets faster (e.g. train ticket purchase takes only a few minutes), while enjoying access to constantly updated carrier offers and prices.
«Customer satisfaction levels remain above the market average thanks to efforts to continuously improve service quality, keep an eye on new trends, and expand our offering. For instance, we have recently developed Russia’s first app offering plane, train and bus tickets in one place. We are now expanding our technological capabilities with the help of cloud services as well,» said Dmitry Khrapov, founder of Tutu.ru.
To guarantee disaster-tolerant computing capacity, CROC suggested a hybrid model: the customer’s website is now hosted in both CROC’s cloud and Kompressor data center (certified for compliance with the highest global sustainability standards), while also being backed up in the customer’s local IT infrastructure.
Tutu.ru is a technologically advanced platform that sees major architectural changes at least twice a week. In CROC’s cloud, the company’s service programming and testing processes are hosted separately from the website and thus do not slow down service delivery. Furthermore, IT costs are also reduced by the fact that the customer now only needs to pay for actually consumed resources.
«Even though our customers see us as an online ticket and tour selling agency, we are an advanced IT company, with half of our employees being IT specialists. Naturally, we pay a great deal of attention to software development and look for high-performance, reliable, and user-friendly tools to improve our products,» said Vadim Melnikov, Technical Director, Tutu.ru.
The cloud’s high performance can be attributed to all-flash arrays and network equipment with 10 Gbps throughput capacity, allowing for service development without timeouts and proactive provisioning of new resources when load increases. Moreover, the customer can easily manage cloud resources via Amazon Web Services API and automatically change cloud landscape using the Terraform utility.
«One of the reasons why our cloud is so popular among aggregators of goods and services is the ability to use resources from a wide variety of systems. Just like in a supermarket, customers can select any disks or servers they like and, if necessary, change them in only a few seconds and customize infrastructures based on their specific needs,» noted Maxim Berezin, Cloud Service Development Director, CROC.
Tutu.ru is the #1 travel service in Russia (according to GfK, December 2016), offering train, plane, and bus tickets, vacation packages, hotel bookings, and guided tours, as well as commuter train timetables. Tutu.ru has been operating since mid-2003, welcoming 850,000−900,000 visitors every day. According to SimilarWeb, in October 2017, Tutu.ru was one of the top 35 most popular travel websites worldwide.
