As part of the smart data storage approach, CROC has unveiled its new, more reliable and 25% more powerful universal storage offering, which is designed to replace its standard service based on previous generation data storage systems. To do this, CROC became the first company in Russia to upgrade its cloud infrastructure using Dell EMC ScaleIO software-defined storage (SDS).
The new service keeps pace with customer demand. Previously, CROC’s cloud used two types of data storage media: all-flash (for resource-intensive databases and business-critical applications) and traditional SATA drives (for other systems).
«As customers became more confident in cloud services, they started to migrate increasingly sophisticated solutions to our cloud. We realized that we needed a new storage format that could combine the key benefits of both slow and all-flash drives: relatively low cost and high performance. Therefore, with an infrastructure upgrade and brand-new storage service, we improved customer satisfaction with our cloud,» said Maxim Berezin, Cloud Service Development Director, CROC.
The universal storage service guarantees a disk performance of 500 IOPS/TB and is ideal for the hosting of office and infrastructure apps, as well as small web services and databases.
«We scrutinized the use of Dell EMC software to speed up and improve the reliability of our server equipment and thoroughly tested our new service in the upgraded infrastructure before offering it to customers. We did not commission the new service until we had ensured it was capable of providing stable and excellent performance,» said Sergey Zinkevich, Cloud Service Expert, CROC.
Dell EMC ScaleIO is a software-defined solution that unites heterogeneous drives into a high-performance cluster. Due to decentralized data input/output inside the cluster and intelligent distribution of created volumes, the software-defined storage is several times more powerful than traditional solutions that require extra drives to deliver a faster performance. Moreover, with intra-cluster server breakdown into multiple pools that support data duplication, failure of any one node or even an entire pool will not affect the storage operation. Thanks to ScaleIO, the cloud infrastructure becomes easily scalable and readily adaptable to the current environment and customer needs.
«In the era of digital transformation, many businesses are now looking for affordable IT tools that can make their infrastructures more flexible and efficient. Indeed, SDS solutions, such as ScaleIO, consolidate IT resources and optimize them for specific tasks,» noted Pavel Karnaukh, Head of Systems Engineering Department, Dell EMC Russia, Kazakhstan, and Central Asia.
