Lensmaster rented virtual capacity to implement the ERP system. This enabled to reduce the cost of IT infrastructure for the business application several times in comparison with what was planned.
Vladimir Gabrielek, IT Director of Lensmaster, noted: «Virtual computing resources helped Lensmaster to effectively solve the task of creating a resource-intensive ERP system without spending funds on in-house capacity that will not be needed at our computing center in the near future, waste energy and become outdated. Our business management has been provided with up-to-date information about the stocks of our stores and the ability to rapidly monitor and manage the activity of the holding.»
Dmitry Smirnov, CROC’s Large Account Manager, who supervised the project, noted: «I want to emphasize the professionalism that Lensmaster brings to the planning of their IT strategy and IT budget. There are few companies on the Russian market that calculate their IT costs 10 years ahead. Here is a typical example: Virtual computing resources were used during seven months of implementation. In the long run, system colocation in outsourcing data center turned to be more profitable for the company. Upon completion of active phase of the project, Lensmaster transferred the developed system to a hardware platform in CROC’s data center.»
An infrastructure for Oracle E-Business Suite ERP system development was virtualized and simultaneously implemented based VMware technology. IBM blade servers and an IBM DS4700 storage system were chosen as the platform.
