Now, you can make instance templates without stopping a VM.
Snapshots of all volumes attached to a running instance (except for CD-ROM) are created together with the template. They are crash-consistent, i.e. snapshots of all VM volumes are taken at the same point in time and all the data written to the volumes are saved. Creation progress (in percent) for each snapshot is displayed on its page.
Taking snapshots takes a split second and does not affect the instance operation: it can be restarted, turned off or even deleted without waiting for the template creation to complete. However, you can re-create a template from the same instance only when the previous one is ready.
Instance templates can be helpful when cloning production servers for testing/development and creating complete VM copies for backup and disaster recovery.
Other new features
Resource tables for instances, volumes, subnets, etc. can be sorted by tags.
The instance table in the Instance page can be augmented with provisioned vCPUs and RAM columns.
