Backup
Remote disaster-proof storage of backups at no capital expenditure
Key features
Pay-as-you-go model
Pay only for the protected data volume in line with the infrastructure changes.
Backup of any workloads
The support of 800+ various apps and target sources enables the backup of any corporate workloads, including both traditional systems and modern virtualized and cloud infrastructures, from Exchange, Oracle and SQL to MongoDB, MySQL and Hadoop.
Simple scaling
Backups go to S3 object storage. Up to 1PB of data without deduplication can be stored in one object storage bucket. More buckets can be added, if necessary, which enables you to store arbitrary data volumes and flexibly customize the backup system depending on your current needs.
Deduplication
When it comes to mixed real workloads, deduplication and compression can reduce the size of backups by up to 25 times, and therefore decrease related storage and transfer costs.
Simple management
Self-service interface enables users to access data at any time and offload the backup system administrators.
Fast deployment
The service is initialized in less than an hour. To get started, you just have to install backup agents where necessary and negotiate RTO/RPO.
Use cases
Cloud infrastructure backup
Cloud resources are backed up directly from CROC Cloud to a completely independent object storage.
On-premise infrastructure backup
Data is backed up to the CROC Cloud server via dedicated channel or public network.
Off-site backups
CROC Cloud’s object storage can be used to store backups separately outside the office according to the 3-2-1 backup rule.
How to get started

FAQ
Where are backup copies stored?
Backups are kept at three independent sites in an S3 object storage on dedicated equipment separately from CROC Cloud. Every data block is stored at each of the three sites. Hypothetically, if two out of the three sites fail, backups will still be available.
What about the backup and recovery speed?
The actual speed depends on the type of the backed up/recovered data and the source/target system parameters and can reach up to 300-400 MB/s per stream. Deduplication and synthetic backups enable you to protect even large-scale systems in a few minutes.
What backup software is used?
We strive to be flexible and meet any needs of our customers. That’s why several backup solutions are available in CROC Cloud to choose from. Most customers use the standard and enterprise-grade solutions. In addition, you can use any AWS S3-compatible software and hardware to transfer backups to the object storage. We conduct test recovery every three or six months.
What solution to use in particular situations?
Small companies with less than 5 TB of data and up to 10 VMs will most benefit from the standard backup soluiton. This simple, easy-to-configure and cost-effective solution is specially developed for small businesses to back up Windows and Linux file systems.
Medium and large companies with more than 5 TB of data and 10+ VMs would rather opt for the enterprise-grade solution. This solution enables you to back up any traditional, virtualized and cloud workloads and suits most of the companies.

What about licensing?
The pay-as-you-go model is used for the enterprise- grade backup solution. Namely, you pay for the number of the protected TB and for the space occupied by backups in the object storage.
Monthly payments for the standard backup solution depend on two factors: the number of backed-up VMs and space that backups occupy in the S3 object storage.

What are the max and min amounts of backed-up data?
There is no such thing as minimum amount required to connect the service. Some customers use it to back up only one or two virtual machines. Maximum volume is only limited by the backup system capacity. For the enterprise-grade backup solution, it is 1+ PB per backup server.
