CROC Cloud Helps Stockmann's Online Store Satisfy Growing Customer Demand
Fashion retailer Stockmann leverages CROC Cloud to support its online store, which is visited by more than a million shoppers daily. Focused on website uptime and fewer maintenance costs, the retailer opted for CROC Cloud. Moreover, the customer estimated that using its own resources to maintain computing infrastructure would cost dramatically more than outsourcing.
Stockmann decided to migrate its e-commerce business to CROC Cloud in April 2020, just a few weeks before the annual Crazy Days shopping event. The aim of the project was to get infrastructure ready for a customer traffic burst. This year's sale occurred during the lockdown period in Russia, which heated up demand for online shopping, with the number of customer requests increasing 12-fold. The scalable cloud platform ensured uninterrupted and efficient operation of the retailer's infrastructure during the peak period.
According to the company's representatives, using cloud resources improves both service quality and cost efficiency. Constructing its own geographically distributed data centers is outside Stockmann’s development plans, especially when monthly maintenance of virtual servers comes at a more favorable price. In addition, cloud capacity can be rapidly expanded to keep e-commerce systems up and running during regular promotional campaigns, the next of which is scheduled for October 2020.
"We are happy with the first five months of our use of CROC Cloud, with the experience totally convincing us of the platform's fault tolerance, team proficiency and customer commitment. Any issue is solved in no time without tickets or other red tape for minor requests. Instead, we simply contact a manager when we need to get something done," said Sergey Fadeev, Director of E-Commerce Department, Stockmann.
"Self-isolation represented a stress test for the majority of retailers. Those which managed to prepare for a spike in online orders or ensured that IT systems would not collapse under heavy customer traffic passed the test gracefully. The Stockmann case proves that a smart IT strategy and outsourcing of computing resources help improve business efficiency as well as capacity to handle economic fluctuations," said Maxim Berezin, Business Development Director, CROC Cloud Services.
