Foreign Logistics Company Leverages Growth Driver in Russia

SK Operations, a Supply Chain & Logistics service provider and member of international investor SK Group, has transferred business data of their Russia based operations to CROC’s Cloud for consolidation and compliance purposes.

The migration involved sev-eral business-critical IT systems, including a warehouse management system (WMS), customer relationship management (CRM) and electronic data interchange (EDI) da-tabases. These systems are used 24/7 365 days per year by SK Operations to serve its 16 renowned international and local customers.

As a result of mergers and acquisitions during 2017 and 2018, SK Operations’ business grew dramatically. The company inherited some services and systems hosted on both local and international sites that had to be integrated into SK Operations’ infrastructure. To ensure business continuity, comply with uniform IT industry standards and provide se-curity against the possibility of regulatory claims, SK Operations’ management decided to consolidate data and services within a single cloud platform hosted on Russian servers.

“Operating in the service industry, we are extremely concerned about the reliability of service and data integrity, as well as local law compliance, and thus always strive to meet local regulatory requirements. When choosing a provider, we take into account its expertise, cloud platform resilience, and conformity certificates with globally recog-nized organizations such as the Uptime Institute and Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council,” said Andrew Taylor, Vice President for Operations, SK Operations.

The migration was completed in just one month and preceded by a customer infra-structure audit and recommendations on how to optimize business processes to allow for smooth running in the cloud. Data was moved virtually, without interrupting business processes, as databases, applications and office client software were backed up in CROC’s Cloud and all information was transferred step-by-step.

As a result, SK Operations now enjoys resilient business app operation via CROC’s Cloud, data storage compliance, and significant capacity increase to allow for optimal servicing of the Russian market.

“No doubt, the success of the project, completed on a tight timeline and within a strict budget, was driven by the high-quality of interaction provided. We received daily pro-gress reports in writing and regularly met company representatives in person to discuss details, thus allowing issues to be mitigated and resolved as they arose. The cloud pro-vider now employs this face-to-face approach while providing technical support for al-ready migrated systems,” said Andrew Taylor.

“Projects for companies like SK Group augment our experience as close communica-tion helps us better understand the specifics of a foreign company’s operations in Rus-sia and learn about international best practices. In addition, we are happy to see our work and team professionalism being highly appreciated,” said Maxim Berezin, Business Development Director, CROC Cloud Services.

How to Move to New Data Center and Avoid Losing Data?
Cloud services gain in popularity every year. In our estimates, some 70% of large Russian companies have used the cloud or other services based on commercial data centers, at least once. This consumption model has always been good for rapid data transfer from local to the provider’s infrastructure, enabling similarly fast service termination if it is not needed anymore.
